Domestic abuse, also known as spousal abuse, is definitely a topic that is "swept under the rug". Yet we are losing women everyday due to this unfortunate struggle. Domestic abuse is when a person who is in an intimate relationship or marriage attempts to dominate or control the life of the person they are in a relationship with. The abuser uses fear, guilt, shame, and intimidation to gain complete power over their significant other. When the domestic abuse involves physical abuse, this is known as domestic violence.

Self- mutilation is a general term for a "complex group of behavior" which results in the destruction of one's own physical body. Self- mutilation is a general term for a "complex group of behavior" which results in the destruction of one's own physical body. The self-mutilator may scratch, burn, cut their skin or on a more extreme level pull out their hair, break their bones, amputate their body parts, or enucleate (remove from cover) their eyes. A few contributing factors of self-mutilation are neglect, abuse, unhealthy environments, and self pity.
